Artistic Atatement
While deeply consumed in the art of dance as a three-dimensional moving landscape, I enjoy exploring subjectivity, colors, composition, and the use of light in photographic art and watercolor.

I invite the audience to see my works through lenses colored with my Chinese cultural heritage, reflected in my choices of vibrant colors and complex forms. Some works simply celebrate nature's glory radiant in spiritual power. Others provoke curiosity. When the familiarity of subject is removed, viewers are free to define their interpretations of the work. Rather than appreciate the subjects in their natural state - beautiful, innocent, and pure - I offer a framework for viewers to enter into my vision and define meanings for themselves.

With photo art, I often abstract familiar forms, lines and shapes and manipulate them with imaginary color compositions to create visual rhythm and vibrancy, curiosity and wonder. My photo art is digital photography manipulated in Photoshop.

Collaboration

2007
Ting-Yu collaborated with choreographer Peter Kalivas in his contemporary dance titled Pathways of Water – Splash presented at a sold out gala concert on September 23 at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Astana.  Chen’s three large projected photographic murals provided visual impact while the dance featured professional dancers from The National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Astana and children from the Palace of Youth.  The event was funded by The US State Department of Education and Culture, sponsorship from The US Ambassador, The Minister of Culture and The National
