Artistic Biography
Ting-Yu is the artistic director of Flying Lions Dance Company, associate professor of dance at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia, and a grant recipient of the National Arts Council of Cultural and Educational Development, Chin-Lin Culture Arts Foundation, Bureau of Cultural Affairs Kaohsiung City Government and Tso's Dance Association in Taiwan, the Greater Columbus Arts Council in Ohio, and Shenandoah Arts Council in Virginia.

Ting-Yu’s performance and choreography have been invited for showcase at the 2004 CORD/WDA International Dance Conference in Taiwan, 2006 Hong Kong Dance festival, 2007 Flying Lions Ting-Yu Chen Dance Company touring concert in Kaohsiung and Taipei, 2007 Asian Choreographers’ Showcase in Taiwan, and 2005 & 2008 Estada Internacional de Dansa and InterTOURdansa in Spain. Her works have received high recognitions by adjudications at the American College Dance Festival Gala Concerts, Jazz Dance World Congress choreography competition, and various Choreographers’ Showcases in Maryland, Washington D.C. and Virginia.

She has received choreography commissions from Interdansa in Spain, Tso Dance Association, Tsoying Dance Ensemble and Chung-Hwa Dance Company in Taiwan, the Dance Ensemble of Si-Chun Conservatory in China, Phoenix Dance Company in Baltimore, Maryland, the Taiwanese American Association in St. Louis, Missouri, Gretna Music Festival in Pennsylvania, Virginia Repertory Dance Company of James Madison University, Bucknell University Dance Company, Inwood Dance Company of West Virginia, and Repertoire II of Booker T Washington High School in Dallas.

She has presented, choreographed, and taught in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Canada, Argentina, the Netherlands, Spain, Russia, and in the United States at Harvard University, Wittenberg University, George Mason University, Old Dominion University, James Madison University, Bucknell University, and in Columbus (OH), Cleveland, Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Washington, DC, Boston, St. Louis (MO), West Virginia Dance Festival, and at American College Dance Festivals. Ting-Yu serves on the national board of the American College Dance Festival Association. She is a member of World Dance Alliance, Dance Film Association and Shenandoah Arts Council. Ting-Yu received her M.F.A. from the Ohio State University in 1996, and B.F.A. from SUNY Purchase in 1993.
